Ah, welcome to this brand new site section; please step into our office...
Since our humble beginnings in the 1990's, our site has been growing
and growing and growing - very much like our malt mania. In 2007, I
was forced to split the site into a number of different sections, and
this is one of them, all dedicated to scores, numbers and statistics.
First of all, there's a page about scores with a number of views of
various maniacs on the basic idea of scoring whiskies. The actual
'meat' of this site section consists of the Matrix (the whiskies that
were sampled by four or more maniacs), the Monitor (all whiskies
that we've ever sampled, collectively) and our MM Awards section.
If you feel overwhelmed by the numbers on thousands of whiskies in the matrix and the monitor, check out the MaltMenu in our bar.
It contains around 200 widely available and affordable official bottlings - the sort of whiskies you might find in your average whisky bar.
That's all for now - the Malt Maniacs website is still being reconstructed, please bear with us for the next few months...
Or join the MM mailinglist, of course - if you want to receive regular updates by e-mail about the progress at least.
Oh well, if you wanted to receive regular updates I guess you would have joined the mailinglist already a long time ago ;-)

The MM Matrix and MM Monitor are based on the same 'data' but both give different perspectives on it.
While the monitor offers an overview of every whisky we've collectively sampled thus far (single malts
as well as blends, grain whiskies, Irish whiskeys, etc.) the matrix focuses more on 'the big picture', only
listing those whiskies that were seriously sampled and scored by at least four different, certified maniacs.
The matrix and the monitor are quite massive in their own right (one and two megabytes, respectively) but the largest
number of pages can be found in the Malt Maniacs Awards section. Apart from the complete results for the MM Awards
for the years 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 the section contains a few additional pages with useful information as well,
like the overview of all medal winners. There you can find out which whiskies won gold, silver or bronze in the past.
Just keep in mind that it's no mean feat to win a bronze medal in the Malt Maniacs Awards - let alone silver or gold.
Visit the rules & regulations page if you want to know more about the 'guidelines' of our annual whisky competition.
One of those guidelines is that the 'semiprofessionals' of our team (the whisky writers) can't take a seat on the jury.
They can't publish their scores on the matrix / monitor either, for that matter. We love and respect our writers dearly,
but we are an amateur organisation at heart and we want our collective scores to keep representing an independent
perspective. Besides, most of the professional writers already post (some of) their scores in 'main stream' publications.
