One of the winners in our whisky competition!
Malt Maniacs Awards - Overview

What's more, we don't charge 'entry fees' like 'professional' competitions do.
That means that we're not forced to hand out medals to our 'customers' in return for their
entry fees. If you know that some 'professional' competitions charge 500 dollars for each
bottle that is entered into the competition, you'll understand that their main concern is not
necessarily providing 'Joe Public' with useful and reliable information. But don't take our
word for it; simply buy a few medal winning whiskies and compare our collective opinion
with that of other, more 'professional' jury's. Why don't YOU be the judge for yourself?

Since the 'prehistoric' days of the malt maniacs (the 1990's) we have been frustrated by the
'chocolate medals' that were printed on the labels and boxes of some whisk(e)y bottles.
These medals and awards were handed out by members of the whisky industry and
suppliers of promotional material that disguised their business model as a competition.
Let's just say that their tastes in whisky were not always similar to ours...

The Whisky Olympics

The Malt Maniacs Awards only come around once
a year. If rankings, ratings & scores are your
thing, our new whisky monitor database should
satisfy most of your desires during the rest of the
year. The database contains scores, details and
tasting notes for over 10,000 different whiskies.

We used to keep our readers mostly updated
via an old-fashioned mailinglist, but in this modern
day and age you can follow us on Twitter as well.
People following us on Twitter receive fairly regular
updates and are the first to know when new site
sections, E-pistles or improvements are published.

And that's all about the MM Awards for now...

Sweet drams,

Founder Malt Madness / Malt Maniacs

Although this is still an amateur competition, we take it very seriously.
That usually means that a jury member spends at least an hour with each whisky in the
competition. We've perfected the fine art of 'micro-dramming' and sample each whisky at
least two or even three times - 100% blind of course - to guarantee 'solid' scores.

At the bottom of this page you'll find the logo's
of some of our more ambitious participants who
have participated multiple times over the years.
The fact that we don't hand out 'double gold'
medals and pre-printed medal stickers keeps
some of the participants away, but the brands
below have bravely participated year after year.

So, the malt maniacs decided to set up an alternative whisky competition of our own.
Initially, the results of our competition were published mostly in the form of HTML pages.
You can find an overview of all awards and medals that were handed out in that year on
the pages for the 2003 / 2004 / 2005 / 2006 / 2007 / 2008 / 2009 & 2010 awards.
Starting in 2011, we'll be using a PDF jury report and social media to spread the news.
