Sorry, be advised that this is an 'orphan' page!
When we re-launched the Malt Maniacs website in 2006 (after a massive crash
of the original Malt Madness site), we had megalomaniac plans
to develop the
ultimate whisky web site. We thought we would need lots of different sections
on this site to provide enough room for all the wonderful fresh whisky articles
that we would be writing. As it turned out, we were a little too optimistic...
Shortly after the re-launch of Malt Maniacs, various
'social media' like Twitter
and Facebook started to emerge. They filled a lot of the needs & wants that
we had intented to fill with some of the new site sections, so a few years later
we decided to simplify the structure of Malt Maniacs again and remove a few
of those extra pages - and
this 'bar' page was one of those pages. We've
kept it on-line though, to prevent visitors from encountering too many broken
links. Please select one of the options at the left to visit more recent web pages.
As far as our discussions are concerned: check out the old 'Ask an Anorak' E-pistles that you can find in
the ADHD section for now. As soon as the old archive is finished they will all be available through an 'index'
in this site section as well. This section is not finished yet; please check out the archive for (relatively) fresh
E-pistles. The office section is now finished as well, with the MM Matrix, the MM Monitor and the MM Awards.
Join the mailinglist if you want to receive updates via e-mail. Check out WhiskyFun for all daily updates...

The MaltMenu provides an overview of all 'regular' official bottlings that you're likely to find on the shelves of a whisky bar or liquorist (Ardbeg 10yo, Balvenie 12yo, Oban 14yo, etc.) together with 'thumbs up' or 'thumbs down' recommendations. The matrix and monitor are the perfect toys for data freaks, but beginners that just want to make a 'short list' of recommendable and widely available whiskies are better off with the MaltMenu. Apart from our recommendations (based on the average scores from all maniacs, but factors like price as well) each malt whisky is described with tasting notes & comments.
Welcome to the bar of our madhouse - the place where you can find the maniacs 'after hours',
discussing new malt whiskies and all other whisky related matters. Just like in a real bar (well,
most real bars anyway), guests regularly disagree on topics and if it wasn't for the physical
distance between various maniacs we might even engage in the occasional fist fight. But malt
whisky heals all wounds - any disagreement between malt maniacs never lasts for very long.
However, as bars go, this is a slightly run down place with not much activity.
In order to keep the list as brief as possible, we've selected a maximum of three official expressions for each distillery in Scotland. Whiskies from Japan, Ireland and the USA may be added later, but for now I'll have to direct you to the Lex-icon. It contains an overview of all malt whisky distilleries in the world. If you'd like to read more tasting notes on Scotch single malts, I'll have to direct you to Malt Madness and Whiskyfun for now. Eventually we may launch our own Malt Maniacs database, but I'm afraid that's still a pipe dream...
Apart from our own lists of discussions and noteworthy whiskies, this section of our website also
contains an overview of World Wide Whisky Events maintained by Austrian-Greek malt maniac Konstantin
Grigoriadis. It provides dates and details of whisky festivals and tastings around the world, as well as a list
of recent reports on those events in our E-zine.
Not too long after we opened our virtual doors, the Malt Maniacs & Friends group was launched on Facebook - and most of our discussions moved there. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't visit our bar every now & then, though... For one thing, once the archive section is reconstructed we will provide an overview of all 'Ask an Anorak' articles we've written over the years. Those discussions tend to be a little more elaborate than the ones on Facebook because not all maniacs are regular visitors of our forum.
