Malt Maniacs Bar

Welcome to the bar of our madhouse - the place where
you can find the maniacs 'after hours', discussing new
malt whiskies and all other whisky related matters.
Just like in a real bar (well, most real bars anyway),
guests regularly disagree on topics and if it wasn't
for the physical distance between various maniacs
we might even engage in the occasional fist fight.
But whisky heals all wounds - any disagreement
between malt maniacs never lasts for very long.

At the moment, there's only one part of the bar
section that's finished; the MaltMenu. It provides
an overview of all the 'regular' official bottlings that
you're likely to find on the shelves of a whisky bar
or liquorist (Ardbeg 10yo, Balvenie 12yo, etcetera)
with 'thumbs up' or 'thumbs down' recommendations.

Malt Maniacs Bar

MM NEWSFLASH #1 - and just when I had started work on a 'World Wide Whisky Events' page, I found I was not alone.
Our new certified malt maniac Konstantin Grigoriadis was working on his own World Wide Whisky Events list - and he had already dozens of events lined up. So, instead of maintaining two seperate lists we agreed Konstantin would act as an editor for the list on Malt Maniacs.

MM NEWSFLASH #2 - maybe this is not the right place for it, but with much of the site still under construction I didn't know where else to
put it. It seems our German 'friend' Mr. Andreas Jacobs is at it again, selling confirmed fakes as well as highly suspect bottles on eBay.
So, here's a fresh 'Fake Alert'... An anonymous source from the whisky industry tipped us off with these words: 'I found some stuff on the
Whisky Magazine website about these. You may have seen them already. FYI - last time I saw them they were in the same box as the famous
fake bottle of Talisker that Dave Broom wrote about in his Whisky Magazine article - so as far as I'm concerned they're guilty by association.
(I know they all came from the same source. Item number: 160081958762, Item number: 160081958728, Item number: 16008195868.)'

Until the new 'fakes' dossier in the library is finished, I'm afraid that's all we have to say about this particular case at the moment...

As far as our discussions are concerned: check out the 'Ask an Anorak' E-pistles that you can find in the ADHD section for now.
As soon as the old archive is finished they will all be available through an 'index' in this site section as well. This section is not finished yet;
please check out the archive for (relatively) fresh E-pistles. The office section is now finished as well, with the MM Matrix, the MM Monitor and
the MM Awards. Join the mailinglist if you want to receive updates via e-mail. Check out WhiskyFun for all daily updates...

Enjoy!

Editor Malt Madness / Malt Maniacs

The matrix and monitor are the perfect toys for data freaks, but
beginners that just want to make a 'short list' of recommendable
and widely available whiskies are better off with the MaltMenu.
Apart from our recommendations (based on the average scores
from all maniacs, but factors like price and consistency as well)
each malt whisky is described with tasting notes & comments.

In order to keep the list as brief as possible we've selected a
maximum of 3 official expressions for each distillery in Scotland.
Whiskies from Japan, Ireland and the USA may be added later.
And all that is just a precursor to our own Malt Maniacs database!
