Let me start by thanking my friends who pushed me time and time again until eventually I  gave in and tried a single malt.  For years my mantra has been: "I don't like whisky. I don't drink whisky".  And vice versa.  Of course, just like almost everybody else I confused Johnny Walker Red and that cheap supermarket stuff with whisky. Yet André and Hans-Jürgen kept trying to persuade me. "Attend a tasting and you'll be surprised" they would say all the time. I never indulged, however.

The night I finally discovered SMWS after all was actually a bad one for me. Let's just say I had reason to get drunk but I hadn't been successful enough in that regard when I already ran out of the brandy that I had brought to André's place. "No half measures" is another motto I believe in (where have I read this one before?) and since getting half drunk is a waste of money anyway, André saw his chance coming again to finally convince me of the qualities of single malts. I gave in and he poured me a Highland Park 12yo, one of his favourites. "Hmmm, not bad", was my first reaction. André's eyes lit up! A chink in my armour? "Try this one! You might like it even better!", he shouted. And right he was, I did like it even better! WOW! What was that? Peat water? Uncredible! I was shaking my head in disbelief. What he had served me was a Bowmore 12yo, the first time in my life I had tasted a peated whisky. The next week I bought my first bottle of Bowmore and I did accompany Hans-Jürgen to a tasting. And the rest is history, as they say. This story probably sounds familiar, doesn't it? Yet without the constant hustling of André and Hans-Jürgen I might never have discovered the wonderful world of the water of life.
So again, thank you, guys.

And since I'm at it, let me also thank my girlfriend Anke for her patience and understanding for my maltmania. She actually smiles at times when I sink my nose into a glass for half an hour or so and forget to talk to her during that time...  Other than that ther's not much to say here. Hmmm...) but I'm having fun while hitting the different kind of balls. I'm also a diehard American Football fan but except for one flag football experince I'm following this sport only passively. I'm not big enough (and too damn old!) to take all the hits and collisions. I'm afraid no whisky in the world could soothe all that pain. Besides that yours truly is a perfect couch potato: give me a good book and a nice dram, play some fine music and I'm happy.
